D.A.R.E. Program |
|
Welcome to the Lawrence County Police Department D.A.R.E. page. The LCPD has been involved in the D.A.R.E. program for eleven years. Approximately 500 kids go through the program each year, not to mention the hundreds of other kids that are seen at local events. |

The D.A.R.E. program is supervised by Officer Greg Taylor. The program first started in the Mitchell Community Schools
district. Since that time, the program has developed into a county
wide project with other police departments being responsible for the schools in their
jurisdictions.
Presently, the LCPD D.A.R.E. program is taught in six elementary
schools: Dollens in Oolitic, Springville,
Shawswick, Heltonville, Fayetteville, and Needmore. This program is
targeted at the fifth grade students. Fifth graders receive a nine
week core curriculum. Third graders also receive a five week
curriculum which prepares them for the core curriculum in the fifth grade. In February 2005, the department added a new D.A.R.E. car to its fleet. A 2005 scream'n yellow Ford Mustang GT replaced our black 2000 Ford Mustang GT. The Mustang is assigned to D.A.R.E. Officer Taylor and is a fully equipped police car. The Mustang is used for the D.A.R.E. program. It is also assigned to patrol duties when the officer is not at the schools. |
